Explore the Mekong Delta, often called the Amazon of Vietnam, a region of vast rivers, interlaced canals, and windy oceans. During the water season, locals from Dong Thap Muoi, Long Xuyen Quadrangle, Ca Mau, Bac Lieu, Soc Trang, Can Tho, Vinh Long, and Ben Tre rely on boats and junks for shelter, housing, and transportation. These multi-purpose boats help them fish, sell goods like fruits and food, and navigate the flooding waters.

Life on the Water

The Mekong Delta is not only famous for its water life but also known as Vietnam’s rice bowl. The region features vast, golden rice fields swaying in the wind. It’s also a fruit paradise, offering a variety of fruits such as mango, grapefruit, oranges, tangerines, jackfruit, strawberry, banana, longan, pineapple, rambutan, mangosteen, durian, and papaya.

Highlights

  • Boat Tours: Experience Cai Be and Cai Rang floating markets.
  • Scenic Beauty: Enjoy the stunning scenery of the Mekong Delta.
  • Local Life: Observe the daily activities of locals living along the canals.

Today we will start our exploration of the Mekong Delta, a major rice-producing area. This must be one of the most fascinating riverine deltas in the world. The Mekong splits into nine major arteries. A vast network of rivers and waterways with thousands of ships of all sizes plowing the waters gives the Mekong Delta a very special atmosphere and no doubt one of the most interesting destinations for Vietnam Tours.

On arrival, we will make a boat trip to the Cai Be floating Market, visit villages, and meet the people of the Mekong Delta.

Continue your boat trip to An Binh Island for Lunch with a local family and a bike trip in the afternoon.

Continue to Can Tho – the heart of the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. Check-in on your arrival, free at leisure and overnight in Can Tho.

In the morning, we make the boat cruise to see the Cai Rang floating market (the nicest one with heaps of rowing boats), truly highlights of any Vietnam Tours where you will enjoy the beautiful scenery and see the daily activities of the locals who live along the Mekong canals and later, you will roam through the village to visit a rice husking mill, rice noodles making shop which are nice chances to discover the daily life of Vietnamese people in Mekong Delta.

After lunch, depart for the 3-hour drive to Chau Doc. Overnight in Chau Doc.

After breakfast, take a boat to the area’s unique fish farms and visit a village of stilt houses belonging to the Cham minority. Here you will see colorful traditional textiles being woven on old wooden looms.

Your afternoon is at leisure, and a visit to Sam Mountain for sunset is highly recommended. There are dozens of pagodas and temples around Sam Mountain and reaching the peak, with its fantastic views, is the highlight of the visit.

Continue to Tra Su forest for a nice boat trip before getting back to your hotel.

Overnight in Chau Doc.

After breakfast, an early morning boat departure takes you an hour up the delta’s waterways to the Cambodian border. After clearing immigration, it’s another 4 hours along the Mekong to Phnom Penh, your final destination. We hope that you have enjoyed your time with us and look forward to your next Vietnam Tours.
