Hanoi – Mai Chau – Moc Chau – Son La – Dien Bien Phu – Sapa
The mountainous North West provides the perfect terrain for trekking routes. The Thai minority, a warm and friendly ethnic group, will welcome you into their homes and share their stilt house lifestyle. The roads wind precariously across the mountain ranges, capturing the intensely varied lifestyles of Vietnamese people. The final two days of your journey will be spent trekking to stay in minority villages around Sapa.
Day 1 Hanoi - Hoa Binh - Mai Chau (L,D)
Our tour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Hanoi at 8h00 after your breakfast, we head out Hanoi quickly, stop at Ethnology Museum for getting overview understand of some of 54 ethnic minority, those living in Vietnam before we start our exploration trip, the museum show about their suppurate cultures, lifestyle of each group and Terrance where they inhabited.
We leave the museum and heading for Mai Chau, enjoy views of local farmer along the road stop for taking photo when you wish. We reach Man Duc town at noon, where we fine a local restaurant for lunch.
In the afternoon we start climb up to higher altitude through Cun pass, Thung Khe and then Thung Nhuoi Pass, you will surprise about the beautiful nature of the limestone rocks and old tropical rain forest dotted around are house on stilt of the Muong and Thai People. Stop for paying a visit to Muong village, turn around the village and understand their typical culture.
We reach Mai Chau in the middle in the afternoon, we will find Lac Village, where we will ask to spend the night hear. Lac village is located in the ground of Mai Chau valley and home to Thai community, surrounding is other villages and green rice paddies. We check in one of the Thai Home. After a cup of tea we leave the village for a round trek passing the rice field to near by village, where you can admire beautiful scennery and see people weaving brocade in their home. Late afternoon we reach back to our family, stay overnight in Thai’s stilt house
Day 2 Mai Chau- Moc Chau- Yen Chau - Son La(B,L,D)
Wake up by the sound of the village and have breakfast, we leaving Lac Village and Mai Chau and start out new day by driving further northwest to Son La. The route become more and more adventure, winds through high pass and descend down deep valleys is always. The scenery become more and more picturesque. We stop at Xa Linh, the first village in the northwest you will see Black H’mong minority people, they leaving and cultivated in high mountain side so they and have difficult to contact with out side world because of the complicated transportation.
We continue on our trip by driving through Moc Chau, where famous farm milk in Vietnam. Moc Chau also is good place for planting tea, from here you will also see many of tea farm en route. Later of the day we will pass some of the spectacular pass with nice views of the rice paddy and Thai people working on the mountain side below our road. We stop at some villages of the Black Thai people to pay our visit, the Thai people here is almost the same Thai People in Mai Chau because they are in the same group, but they wear different clothes and they are Black Thai People.
We arrive to Son La at about 4h30 in the afternoon. Check in Trade Union Hotel, which is considered as a hotel with the best service and accommodation in the Town. Evening is free at leisure, you can wondering around the Town at Night or relax at some of the local café on the side of Son La Town Main roads. Son La is poor town in the northwest, this town hade really get no developed from the government, there are some main street with family house and local government office on the side. Day 3 Son La - Thuan Chau - Tuan Giao - Dien Bien Phu (B,L,D)
Breakfast is served at the hotel at 8h00, check out hotel and board our jeep transfer to Son La Prison which was used by French for Vietnamese Army (Viet Minh) during Vietnam War. We drive up north Son La Town in the winding road to reach Tuan Giao and Dien Bien Phu, during our drive we reach Pha Din Pass, This high pass which regarded as the cloud pass of the north and provides spectacular scenery to the surrounding areas. We make some short trek down hill to visit to H’mong village to see how about the life of the people are living here, taking photo and talk with the local people, tour guide always translate about what the people say and to share their culture.
Many chance for photo along the drive, you can stop where you are interested too, we are always welcomes. We reach Dien Bien Phu late afternoon, check into Dien Bien Phu Hotel, free in the everning on your own. Overnight stay at hotel in Dien Bien Phu town

Day 4 Dien Bien Phu - Lai Chau - Tam Duong (B,L,D)
After your breakfast at hotel at 7h30, we start the tour to see former battlefields, and Dien Bien Phu museum if you wish. We then continue out the day by road trip to Lai Chau, this part Lai Chau is the remote Conner of the northwest, with beautiful nature and minority village, from this drive you will see some of the new minority group such as Mang, Kho Mu, Red H’mong. Some of the village need permit for visit and some are limited by the Vietnam government. We will try to arrange you to go and see as much as possible, they are now have only small among of population as few hundred families. They are living and cultivate in high above altitude compare to the road. Continue on we will reach Lai Chau, Lai Chau is old capital City of Lai Chau province, located in bottom of Lai Chau valley this now is small town, surrounding is rice fields, mountain, forest and home of the black Thai people.
We will have lunch at a local restaurant here and have a rest. Early in the afternoon, we leave Lai Chau for Phong Tho (Tam Duong), from this drive we will see a lots of Dao and H’mong and Flower H’mong people, this town is also a small, but the villages around are beautiful, people here wear colorful customs and heavy earring. Many chance for photo of the local people and villages. We check inthefor the overnight stay, evening is free for relax or wandering around this little town. Overnight stay at hotel

Day 5 Tam Duong - Sapa (B,L,D)
Wake up and have breakfast at 7h30 am. We then start the short trek through the Phong Tho (Tam Duong) morning market, with hundreds minority people in colorful attire comes and exchange forest food and and animal. We trek to one of the Dao or Flower H’mong people to understand their culture and way of life. Back to hotel at 10 am and check out. We tell you that the road from Phong Tho to Sapa as the most stunning for whole northwest, many spectacular view will be seen on this road as we will pass Tram Ton pass, which provide panorama into China and Laos, the to Fansipan mountain where beautiful view into Sapa and Rain forest nearby at the high of 3100 m above sea level. The people inhabited in this area is Lu and Lao people, who wear clothes mix between black and Red colors. We stop at many point during this drive for photos, you will surprise from the beauty of the nature here we sure. Late of the day we stop at Silver Waterfall which is 12 km from Sapa town on the way from Phong Tho to Sapa. Take a rest and relax by this high waterfall before we descend down to Sapa Town. Day 6 Sapa - Hanoi(B,L)
we then leave Sapa Town by our vehicle, move toward the west of the Sapa town to Muong Hoa valley. Isolated Houses and small villages of the H’mong tribe live scattered between terraced rice fields, flooded in the spring for the sake of the young rice, dry in the autumn and filled with yellow rice ready to harvested. We stop at the end of the dirt road and take a short walk our way to the Ta Van village, the only village in Sapa is inhabited by the Giay tribe. After visit the village we return to Hanoi, arrive at about 6h00 pm.
